It's not a matter of age so much as physical development. If you're developed enough to have bad period pains, you're probably developed enough for the pill.
(I was 13 when I started taking it - my periods were very bad and very irregular. And to those answerers jumping to conclusions - no, I did not start having sex because of it. The pill can be used for things other than contraception.)
But you need to discuss this with your gynecologist (or find a gynecologist if you don't have one yet). He/she's the only one who can truly judge if it'd be safe for you to take, and which one (there are special ones for very young women/girls). Also, he/she might have a different suggestion for your problem.

First of all, it is common for teens to have bad cramps and dizziness during their teens. It's your body adjusting to becoming a woman. I had it too. That will slow down as you get older.
Secondly, the Pill does NOT help with cramps. It has no effect on them. It's a myth that the pill helps bad cramps. It doesn't do a thing for cramps.
I'm speaking from personal experience. I never took the pill during my teens. My bad cramps adjusted on their own by the time I was 17.
I have been taking the pill for the past 14 years for period regularity. Though I still have had cramps over the years, the pill has no effect on relieving them.
You have to take period medicine to relieve cramps. I take OTC PMS medicine (it's the same thing). Or, use a heating pad/wrap.

I think that at 13, it's perfectly alright to take birth control for bad cramps. There's no reason why you should have to suffer when there is something that can help.

I'm not sure if there is a set age. I started taking it at 12 for bad cramps and the doctors said there was no problem.

My friend just turned 14 and she takes birth control for rlly bad cramps. If you are having these kinds of problems and it is ok with your mom, don't make yourself miserable, just take the birth control!! You will probably feel MUCH better!

Birth control pills are wonderful to help alleviate cramps, well worth it. They are especially helpful if you have heavy bleeding. It may take a few tries to get the right prescription. You are old enough to take b/c pills now.
