The only way to know for sure is to take it to someone who can saw the rock in half, etch it with some chemical, and check for "Wiedmanstatten Figures", an indication of the crystallinity of the rock (I may have spelled it incorrectly). If those figures appear it is a meteorite..if not, then it isn't. Check with local observatories for someone to take it to.

is it unusually heavy for its size? is it magnetic? where you found it, did it stand out like a rock tha simply should not have been there? to know for sure you would have to take it into a university maybe and get it checked out by a professional
