I thought I had a pimple, I tried to pop it until it hurt too much to continue. Nothing came out of it. Now it is swollen atleast two times normal size. It is very tender. Is there anything I can do to make the swelling go away? It isn't extremely painful, but it is painful. If it doesn't go down or go away soon, I will make an appointment with my Doc, but I need to know what i should try until then.

My boyfriend looked at the symptoms on webmd and he thinks it is an abscess.

Do you think Epson Salts in a hot bath would help?

Yes, it is most likely an abcessed hair follicle. Aplying wet/hot compresses (as hot as you can stand but be careful not to burn yourself). The heat will draw the abcess to a head and will pop it. That is pretty much the only way to gain relief, if that is what it is. I think most women have experienced this at sometime in their lives. The fluid which comes out will most likely be red or brown and seem watered down.

If the skin is broken some antisepitic ointment will be needed.

Don't squeeze it... that has probably caused the inflamation. If it is anything more serious, your Dr will advise the best treatment.

Sounds like it's an ingrown hair or some kind of infection under a hair follicle... infections apparently love to hang out and multiply in damp moist areas (me too).

I think you should get your BF to bathe it in warm salty water. He is going to love being able to help. The salty water might provide some relief and help with dissinfection. Obviously, if the skin isn't broken a doctor may prescribe something e.g. antibiotics to try and clear it up, or the Dr might suggest you leave it alone so that it can heal itself.

You are right that you need to see a doctor, but in the mean time, you should sit in a very warm tub... as warm as you can stand. This will help sooth the area and draw up any infection/pus. Good luck

Get and ask your bf to work more, and generate extra dosages of tissue excitation in that area may speed up the healing.
