I would advise not to debate with him. I would seek to emphasize your common, shared beliefs and agree not to debate the rest. Your relationship will be a lot better that way.

enjoy the diversity that you can derive from your differences. do you realize how boring it would be if you agreed on every thing? and when you tire of discussing politics, have sex, that's when having differences is lots of fun.
