...or shall we be cursed with selfish, weak-minded politicans that only care about money, votes, and appeasing lobbyist and corporations? I love America, however, I feel as if our political leaders (from any party) lack the charisma, passion, and vision to be an effective leader. Am I wrong?

I love America, however, I feel as if our political leaders (from any party) lack the charisma, passion, and vision to be an effective leader. Am I wrong? (note: I am not suggesting that America turning to a monarchy, but rather, is their a leader out there similar to Leonidas)

I don't mean to give you a lame answer but yes it is possible because we select out leaders by votes... meaning the ppl can vote in anybody they want. Remember... Ross Perot got 19% of the votes in 92. Who knows, anything can happen...

lol that's an interesting comparison...

Leonidas was about sacrifice and doing what is right despite the consequences (the political parts of the the movie were fiction since the Spartans had every intention of getting in on the fight).

even in the past it was not easy to convince people in to doing the right thing, or that sacrifice was necessary.

the Problem with people like Leonidas is they are idealists, and unbending in their ways and in those ideals. politicians need to be more flexible, and that flexibility and that need to please as many people as possible makes it truly impossible to be a set in stone idealist.

History has a long legacy of dead idealists. Unfortunately few of them actually brought any real change to politics or humanity.

But it is a nice tought none the less.

add on: lol I can't belive people think you are calling for a monarchy. lol

We could never have a leader like that. Checks and Balances would have them hamstrung and they would be unable to wage war as they would like to. This is the same situation for Bush in a way. The Democrat congress and House hold him back from doing things as he wishes.

Anything is possible in politics, Americans can change their form of government to a monarchical system and choose a king to lead them. They can make the Constitution void through a plebiscite and evolve into a kingdom.

We don't want or need a king in this country. What we do need IMO is for its citizens to unite & quit feeding at the public trough. Elected leaders are to be just that: leaders. We don't have them because quite frankly most Americans DON'T want them. America is way too soft & far too many are only concerned about themselves.

No. We're a democracy. We would never have a king. THe closest thing is Bush. He reminds me of the King from the king who has no clothes or Nero.
