Ok I have been working for the same company for almost 4 years now and was informed this morning that me and my fellow coworkers no long have a job..What would you do? How would you feel? I mean I just got my 9th promotion and was working my way further up the ladder.I'm a wonderful employee and so are the rest of the people who lost their jobs today..But do people really realize how hard it is to find a good job anymore? what are the people who have been with the company supposed to do who have been there 19,15, 12, 10 years who know nothing else or maybe the ones who are up in their age I mean in their 50's and 60's who do terrific jobs....even the managers have no jobs waiting for them unless they want to pack up and leave with their families who have jobs as well and that was only offered to the GM not the other managers..

I sympathize. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do about the situation. Try to keep your chin up... you didn't get fired. All you can do is try to find another job (and I am sure you will get a great reference). Or maybe you want to take the opportunity to take some courses an re-train for another type of job that you may like even better. Whatever you decide, I wish you the best of luck. Just remember... however hard it is to take, things could always be worse.

Yeah, it stinks to be treated like a commodity...I'm sorry. If your company had more than 50 employees, it was required to give 60 days' notice of a plant closing or mass layoff under a Federal law called the WARN act. Not doing that means you could sue, if there is anything to sue for.

As far as what to do now, the best advice I can offer is to look forward instead of back. The folks who land on their feet quickly spend more time looking for work, or going back to school, or networking with other professionals, school friends, people at church, etc. than they do mourning their loss. Don't get me wrong - it IS a loss, and you WILL grieve - but developing a forward focus will help you to move in that direction.

Best of luck to you and your co-workers...take care.

I worked for an aerospace company for 3 years. One morning when we showed up, the place was locked. The company had gone out of business without any of the employees knowing about it.

I immediately looked for another place to work. About 25 people lost their jobs that day, most with families and mortgages. Get back on your feet as quickly as posible! I know it seems mean, but don't worry about your co-workers.....just take care of yourself!

I would most likely go to bed crying and worry for the rest of the day
then
the next day.. start pounding the pavement, looking in the newspaper, posting resume on Monster.com looking for another job

This happened with a local company called Connexant.

The people were notified when they walked in.
The police had to be called. Ugly.

If this company is public, you might want to investigate
the stock and short it.
