example. if i'm playing a youtube clip. how can i record the sound separately and save it as a file.

audiograbber.... and it's free http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net/ . it'll generate a .wav file of anything running through your sound card including a line in source like a connected stereo system,audio from videos viewed on the net and audio from a microphone. if you can hear it,you can record it. you'll want to convert it to .mp3 next. you can use any number of converters. i use CDex because it's free and easy... http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/download.html ...

I installed a creative external sound card that has both input and output rca plugs.Then with a few adapters I'm able to record into or out of the computer in any format I want.It has some really cool features too.

If you have a microphone hooked up to your computer, use the sound recorder on your computer..just test level a few times to get the right sound quality.

Try TubeHunter which can both save Music/Audios and videos from YouTube and any other video sharing webs and save them as the format you want.

You can use Audacity to record it: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

or you can download the clip and extract the audio.

freecorder is a program that records sounds made by your computer.

OpD2d.exe is a free program that does the same thing.
