Inequality: Women are called sluts, while men are called studs.?

Why is this?
I am doing a short essay about this subject. When women are promiscous they are deemed "whores", but men are congratulated. I am having a hard time finding sources online of this subject.

MY QUESTION IS: Can anyone direct me towards articles that have to deal with this double standard?


I would really appreciate it. Since, my crappy library didn't have the book I was looking for.

This may be hard to research online (typing "women as sluts" in a search engine will not be a good idea...)

I would try to research the root of this issue. Search for things like "negative associations with female sexuality" and "positive reactions to male sexuality."

I think it's an interesting topic for a paper though. I'm always trying to think of words to call guys when they say one of my friends is a slut. Man-whore just doesn't have the same impact.

There is a good reason for this "doubel standard". A woman which sleeps around might put a man in the position where he has to take responsibility for children that are not his.

what about all the double standards that favor women? You talk as if they are all favored towards men. What about the pressure for a man to pay for a date? Women can cry themselves out of a lot of things but if a man crys he would be laughed at. Women can try out for mens sports in school but men are not allowed to try out for womens sports. It's ok for women to slap a man but if a man slaps a women he's going to jail. Men are expected to register for the selective service at 18, but women don't have to.
It's pretty convienient to only discuss the "double standard" that favors men. Women have just as many if not more "double standards" that favor them, funny how you don't hear any women complain about it.
