I'm not sure if this is true or not, but I heard that George W. Bush stole an hour from the life of every person in American and gave them all to Satan. In exchange for what, I don't know.

Ben Franklin originated the idea, but it wasn't put into general use until 1977/78. With the oil shortages hitting the nation hard, the government thought by restricting that winters daylight hours, people would drive less. Come that spring, the government returned the hour to avoid having a sunrise as early as 5:02 am. Personally, I wish they would keep summer hours. I hate 5:30 pm sunsets during the winter.

The idea goes back to Benjamin Franklin but when it was actually adapted by all I'm not sure. Maybe in the seventies. The reason behind it is to extend sunlight, therefore saving some energy. I think it was also supposed to help the farmers with their field work. Either way, I don't like it much. One hour missing and then one hour too many.

The government, because studies show that people buy more in the spring and summer, so they are trying to extend the seasons to get more profit, hoping to stay away from economic recession. Well, that's why it changed, this year. The first time they changed it was so that you could get up at the same time to work in the fields/farms and it wouldn't be dark.

Ben Franklin's idea. Why? To give you more "daylight" hours.

Ben Franklin.
The point is that they used to burn candles and oil for light. He noticed that the sun was up but people had their shutters still closed...by damn, they were wasting day light, candles and oil.
But it was years later they started doing it.
But here in Arizona we say NO, we simply don't do it!!!
