It's a story about a boy living in a community that is forced to feel nothing. They take special pills so they can't feel pleasure/pain/happiness. The town is also controlled by the government. The government even picks out their clothes.

The giver is an old man who picks out the main character to leave the community because he feels that the boy doesn't deserve to live in a town that is controlled by the governement.

I've read and taught this book. I have taught this to my freshmen the last several years. I don't know what you mean by consequences? of reading? of not doing the work? ???

I don't know if you want to give the assignments or if you have to do the assignments. If you were a bit more specific, I might be able to help you.

You can email me if you'd like the assignments. I could send them to you.
