Wait, you're used to sleeping when you're stressed out??? Do you mean you can't sleep when you're stressed out?
To answer what I assume to be your question, I usually take a long walk (the day is hopefully nice so you can catch a beautiful sunset). Don't take the IPod or have any distractions. Just go for a walk, and don't think about where you're going. Allow your body and mind both to wander; only focus on the beautiful scenery. Let your eyes take in the vastness of the clouds, the hues of blue, and the red of the sun. You should eventually begin to ask yourself some philosophical questions, like "Who am I...what am I doing here?" You don't have to find answers to these questions ,but by thinking about them you don't anymore.

Two effective treatments for stress include exercise and meditation.
I love kickboxing to get stress out, and sometimes I imagine the stress cause (usually work related) is getting punched and kicked. Then I start to smile as I think of how silly I am being, but yes it is therapeutic. Any kind of regular aerobic exercise will work, even brisk walking.
Meditation helps, such as reading and re-reading a Psalm or even a meaningful poem. If you are a praying person, that is also helpful. Try to focus on higer, beautiful things.
Make sure you are getting the rest you need, even if it means hot cocoa, hot bath, and relaxing music before bed. Don't use alcohol, it gets you to sleep but tends to make you more restless later. Taking a benadryl might also make you drowsy.
Find someone to talk to to share your stress, decompress by talking about it. If you don't have somebody to dump on, try journaling.
Ask yourself: In 100 years, will anybody know or care about this? How about in 50 years? Chances are your stress is blown out of proportion to reality.
Finally: if stress is getting out of hand, get professional help, ask your doctor.
