2 friends of mine and myself are looking for an "off the beaten trail" type campsite that isn't anywhere near the Wisonsin Dells. We're 15 years old(girls), and looking for a campsite (possibly non-R.V?) like Bois Brule, the campsite all three of us and our dad's went to last year on Memorial Day weekend. We all are up for a "nature adventure" so it doesn't, and proboabally shouldn't, have playgrounds, designated swim area's etc. Also, of course, we'd like it to have senic views and river/lake access. Thanks.

There is camping in Jay Cooke State Park by Cloquet. But I would check out Itasca State Park, where the headwaters of the Mississippi are. You can actually cross the river on the rocks there. It is a few hours north of the Twin Cities, and a couple hours east of Duluth, depending on which way you are coming from. If you want something closer to the Metropolitan area, but with your qualifications there is also a State Park east of North Branch MN.....
If you really want off the beaten path then go to the Boundary Waters. That is THE quintessential Minnesota wildneress place.

Try this place. It isn't camping, but a cabin. It is on the lake with a pier - can't think of the name, but it is off into the lake. There is also a fire pit to have camp fires. Couple of bedrooms, a bath, plus all appliances. Good scenery too.

We stayed in Cabin #6. We try to go every year. If you can't stay for the entire week, you can rent it by nights if there is available space.

Oh yeah, it isn't near the Dells - it's about 5-6 hours north of Chicago.

I know of a camp site in Baraboo, WI. It's called Devil's Lake. It offers a lot of hiking and scenic views. Otherwise, I would recommend looking into camping sites in Door County, WI
