I have multiple choice homework & I have been working on these 2 problems for the past hour:

1.) What is the volume of 288 g of ice if the density is 0.92 g/mL?

2.) The density of aluminum is 2.70 g/cm cubed. What is the mass of the cube of aluminum if it is 1.00 cm each edge?

I don't understand what to do...thanks!!!

In this case, just look at your units.

1) Asking for volume here, so you'll end up with mL. Density is how much of something occupies a certain space. They give you how much you have, just figure out how much space it takes up. In other words, divide the mass by the density.

2) Again, you have the density, but this time they give the volume. Actually they give you the size of one edge of the cube. Since it's a cube, all the sides are equal. Volume = lenthgh x width x height, so basically 1.00 x 1.00 x 1.00, and you end up with cm cubed. That's your volume. So you have density and volume, so it's basically the opposite of the last question.

You just need to look at the units!

Problem #1 - Divide the mass by the density (313 ml is the volume!)

Problem #2 - Find the volume of a cub! (length^3) Then multiply the volume you found by the density (answer = 2.7 g)
