I go to Penn State University, and for the most part, we have semi-public bathrooms. The dorm buildings have stalls and sinks like a public bathrooms, but they also have shower stalls--INDIVIDUAL shower stalls. I haven't ever heard of a college with one big shower, but one might exist somewhere.

There are also other housing options in many different universities. It is becoming more popular to have suites--where two to four people share a bathroom and a common room.

Check with your prospective colleges for more information

Every college dorm is different, but the bathrooms at most of them are communal and consist of private shower stalls (either with a curtain or a door), private toilets and public sinks.

A tip for you: Buy a pair of flip flops that you'll use only in the bathroom. Wear them in the shower. You'll get used to it after the first time.

It really depends on the college. However I;ve been to two different colleges and in each there were seperate stalls that each had curtains for privacy. But one important thing to remember is that you should wear flip flops when showering. You never know what sort of feet problems (warts, fugus) other people have and it's better to be safe than sorry.

To get into the bathroom, in my dorm, you had to have the bathroom key. I go to an urban school, and sometimes, they have had homeless use the bathrooms, and so, they now lock them.
The showers were individual and there was a curtain. There was a hook next to each shower where you could hang your bath robe and towel.

The dorms I stayed in at La Trobe Uni, in Australia, had toilets that were shared between guys and girls. Having said that the toilets all were individual stalls. The showers were individual, in a stall, plus they had a shower screen.
