In England the late 1500s and early 1600s was a time of a great Queen -- Elizabeth I [Elizabeth the first]. She was the daughter of Henry VII. During her reign the arts were very important and England attained a great reputation as a great power in the world, especially on the seas. Shakespeare was able to make a living with his plays and poetry. His plays and those of many other playwrights were performed for both rich and poor in the Globe theater in London.

Note that there is only one "i" in Elizabethan. The queen that reigns now is Queen Elizabeth II. There have been many monarchs between the two Elizabeths.

Hope this helps you
