My husband wants to get rid of the dead weeds we have in the backyard by setting it on fire. He wants to do this so we can plant grass seed. Is this a recommended practice?

Many locales this is no longer legal. It will kill the weeds, but I question the safety of doing it. Get some Roundup and spray. You will need to wait 2 weeks before you can re-seed.

There is nothing wrong with it just make sure that you have the proper method handy to put it out and that it is legal. You will have trouble getting grass to grow for the first year but it should be fine after that.

Probably will be fine if you are in a rural area. But don't ever burn poison ivy, posion oak or poison sumac.
