Recently, i asked if Federer had a forehand drop shot and i received answers suggesting that he doesnt need it since he has every other shot in the book! I beg to disagree.I am a huge fan of Federer's and for two years i have painfully watched him lose to Rafa at the French open.I have carefully examined his performances on clay against Nadal and i think he needs every shot he can execute to beat him this year.Nadal just told the press at d Indian Wells that his fore hand has improved and he is a much better player now than he was in 2005 when he beat Federer on his way to winning the French.Yes,Federer has a def forehand squash shot but i believe he needs an offensive forehand drop shot too. This is a deadly shot on clay any day.His powerful forehand topspins on slow clay have not hurt d mobile Nadal much.I believe he will need to develop his forehand drop shot to be able to stand a chance against Nadal at the French op this yr.This might just give him the edge which we all so desire.

well, I have to disagree with you. I don't think Nadal has improved at all. whereas I think Federer has kept on become better. Consider how close Federer was to beating Nadal last year, it was only a win of mental strength for Nadal, Federer was clearly the better player, and came very close to winning, this year he can take it all the way. Federer is the best player ever! oh and just a note, drop shots can be helpful, but you don't need to hit them off your forehand, I see him win them on his backhand. besides which a drop shot is a low percentage shot,ie. very risky low chance of working. moreover there is no need to hit a drop shot very often.

I think this is his year to do it. His confidence is up Nadals is down . I do not think he is afraid of Nadal anymore, plus Nadals game has been figured out a bit. Federer is playing his best tennis now, and that says something, the guy has not lost a set all season. He does not drop shot because he has such a variety of offensive weapons to choose from and if he had a ball he could drop shot on and messed it up he would be thinking about the 15 other things he could have done with the shot and get pissed at himself. He has flattened out his forehand a bit starting during the Wimbledon Finals , now everyone flattens the ball out against Nadal. Nadal is talking trash because Fed is in his head. I expect to see Fed in the finals and not Nadal, nothing personal against Nadal.

well, he has to go through a lot of very good clay courters if he wants to win....and the last of those he'll face is nadal....he's lucky he doesn't have to face him until the finals. so far federer has shown some form of vulnerability. almost all the tourneys he played so far, he lost a set or something....lost in the first round of the pacific life being held at the moment. i don't think that's the mark of someone in position to win the french especially when you have to face someone branded as the "king of clay" in the finals. he can hurt nadal in most games but nadal will come big to break down his backhand. when those looping, heavy topspin shots come in...he'd better be ready because the sweet spot for his backhand if you watch him closely is somewhere just below his knees....if he wants this, he'd better be ready to hit some high bounces from the backhand wing. and the fact that it's clay...balls will be slower giving nadal more time to hit a cleaner winners...he's already pretty fast to begin with.

No, Federer can't win the French Open this year because Nadal is just too good on clay. Nadal grew up on clay courts and he knows everything about clay courts. Therefore, he will continue to win the French Open every year until he quits, then maybe he'll win the French a couple of times.
