Well, first you have to do your research - find information about AP programs, honor programs, and experts' opinion on them. (Internet searches will help, so a few paper sources wouldn't hurt.)

Collect arguments for or against the thesis (depending on which side you want to argue, if you're given a choice). Try to bring them in a logical order.

The essay will need an introduction saying what the question is, what you'll argue (for or against), and a very short summary of why. (Many people find it helpful to actually write the introduction last.)

Then, write your main part. Each argument needs it#s own paragraph. the first sentence of the paragraph is the "topic sentence" - a brief summary of the argument which will be elaborated in the paragraph. Use facts, figures, statistics - be rational, not emotional.

The conclusion is basically the introduction in reverse - you say what the question was and what you argued, and, very briefly, why. Then maybe a short outlook - something like "It is to be hoped that many schools will do X" - but don't mention any entirely new points or arguments in the conclusion!

Don't forget to cite your sources!

You should pick the three strongest points to support your argument...for example "Advance placement curriculum is best because of: point 1, point 2 and point 3". And then write a strong paragraph about each point.

Use your argument to discredit honors and comprehensive curriculum with-in each of the main paragraphs.

Every essay should be 5 paragraphs in length...the best formula for completing this is:

Intro paragraph...(With-in the intro you should state your three main points of argument)

2nd paragraph :Argue for your 1st point (explain why this is better than advanced and honors)

3rd paragraph: Argue for your 2nd point (explain why this is better than adv. and honors)

4th paragraph: Argue for your 3rd point (explain why this is better than adv. and honors)

5th paragraph: conclusion (include in your conclusion all three points of argument again, as just a reminder as to why you're arguing the way you are.

Hope that helps!
