You can use a tiny dab of ammonia in some hot water. If you don't have ammonia, simply use a mild soap - dish soap or hand soap will be fine. Use a SOFT BRISTLE tooth brush and be sure to scrub the underside of your stone since that is where goo builds up and causes your stone to appear dull. Rub with a soft cloth to dry.

On tour of Fraser Island in Queensland they stop at a lake which has a very fine sand which they encourage you to clean your jewelry and it works good.
