Turbo is the better bang for the buck without nitrous blowing up your upper or lower end. But hey it's what you can afford. Bolt on horsepower isn't cheap. The upper end heads, carb, fuel injection conversion, valves, compression, cam alone can run you a couple grand easy.
Go to the bone yard and get yourself a v8 and tranny for about 500 bones and git r dun.

If you are thinking about a new engine, I'd suggest trading that car in for a Z28/SS/Formula/TA. Get a car with the V-8 already in it, and save yourself the money and the headache.
If you want to make you V-6 faster, there are several options. Bang for the buck will always go to nitrous, but there are downsides to that. Spray too much, and you will destroy your engine. The list of mods that can be done are lengthy:
- Headers, Y-pipe, cutout, and catback exhaust
- Intake
- Throttle Body (ported, or new)
- Heads
- Camshaft
- more aggressive gear ratios
- turbo/supercharger
- nitrous
It all depends on how deep your bank account is. I'd suggest checking out some message boards for suggestions. Reading reviews from people who have been there/done that is really helpful, especially since parts are not cheap. Hope that helps, a little.

Fast as in how fast or rather fast where ya want it? Rearend gear ratio changes can both make ya quicker or give you a top end of over 180 mph This is the cheapest way to go. Red lite to red lite you need a 4:56 -5;13 rear gear you want up to 180 mph (take a little whie to get there) you want it in the 2 to 1 something (can't think of the gear ratio) Low profile tires also help make red lite to red lite along with the gear change . Tall tires will give ya the top end with the higher gear ratios (5 being low and 2 being high)

I would upgrade the engine at least to a v8 first off it would be worth it in the end! Add some nitrous and high performance parts! To hop it up even more add a supercharger or maybe even turbo! That turbo sure does sound amazing!
