I have a laptop and want to be able to get online from anywhere I am. I have heard of Sprint of T Mobile cards, but don't really know much about them. Does anyone know which is better and what kind of price I am looking at paying. Thanks

Yep, it will be a PCMCIA / PC-Card type of device that has a EVDO or HSDPA modem in it :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HSDPA
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EVDO

The service usually runs $50-$60/mo but shop around (http://www.letstalk.com/product/obrowse.htm?pgId=100&paId=2216) and there may be a promotion going on. The service provider usually gives you a small break on the price of the data service (EVDO or HSPDA) if you also have voice service with them.

EVDO and HSDPA are the currently promoted services. There are older and slower (data rate) technologies (1xRTT, GPRS, EDGE) that are still available but you may find that there are no price breaks for lesser performance because the service providers are pushing the current technologies. The EVDO and HSDPA adapters for your computer generally are backward compatible with the older and slower transmission technologies ; this allows you to at least have slow data service in some areas where there is not yet coverage for the current (high data rate) cellular networks.

I dont know what good to get or cheap etc. But I can tell you they work by connecting to a 3G network(like a cell phone) and connects to the internet over that connection(like some newer cell phones). Its basically broadband over a computers cell phone.

why not go to their websites and review the information yourself? They can answer your questions better. As for the service itself, it is a wireless lan card that you place into your computer and it than connects to their internet service.
