Somewhat true, Filipinas like White Men because they see Americans or half-Americans as handsome, attractive, and economically-advantaged. it's the result of Colonial mentality, where Filipinos see everything Caucasian as positive. In the Philippines, the ideal beauty standard is Caucasian, and a lot of those in the upper socioeconomic status are part or full Caucasians. Also, the entertainment industry has been always dominated by half-Caucasians, and certainly, nowadays, they are scouting for additional Amerasian or Eurasian people to import from the U.S.!

Many Filipinos call Americans Joe only in the provinces. This is a hang-over from the World War II, when the American liberating forces waded upon Philippine shores. As they were called 'Joe' by that time, the term soon stuck and Filipinos started calling Whites as Joe. Though it is only applied for pure Whites. if you're half-Pinoy (and presumably half-American), it means that you look Mestizo - a lot of softer Caucasian features than the pure ones, olive tanned skin, brown eyes and brown hair - hence, they won't call you anything like that. Tisoy is the more apt word for describing Amerasians and Eurasians - since it recognizes that one is of mixed race(mesTISOY=Mestizo).

Seriously though, it's not entirely true that we "like" white men. We were brought up thinking/seeing that Caucasian features are considered the ideal beauty standard. That's why many Pinays are attractive to Joes...

I agree with Matt's explanation about the "Joe" thing. However, most Filipinos call Caucasians, not Americans, Joe. It doesn't really matter if you're American or French. Anyone who looks Caucasian is called Joe. Funny and weird at the same time.

I am, so my answer is not all Pinays like white men.and no not all Filipino call Americans Joe.

Most pinays who likes American (white or black) is because most Americans are more responsible and stable than Filipino guys, and it really depends on the person if the girls fall in love with an American guy, there's nothing wrong with it.

and my family never thought me that only fair skin people are considered pretty.

From a full blooded Pinay. While the looks could be the first to attract my attention to a guy, looks doesn't guarantee my liking him after the first look. The moment I recognize that the guy has no brains, I don't give him the second look. I just can't keep on looking at a guy who cannot say or comment on anything other than his own looks, or his cars, or his riches, or skin color. I can't stand a guy too full of himself.
