A person may receive brain damage and lose the ability to see, speak, hear or feel. These are all common cases.

But is it possible for a person to receive brain damage and lose the ability to imagine? If yes, then is that the same thing as being brain dead?

I can't imagine what it would be like to NOT be able to imagine. (If this even make sense at all) :S

There are many things that affect the brain. I had some emotional problems after breast cancer treatment ,at the same time I went into full blown menopause-it's everything they say it will be. POINT: I was on some meds that sucked fluid out of my body, I lost abilities. I went on anti-depressants and lithium for depression/bipolor disorder AND I HAVE LOST MY IMAGINATION. I WROTE, I WROTE STORIES AND POEMS. ALL THE TIME, NON-STOP-I COULD FILL A LEGAL PAD IN ONE DAY. THIS WAS PART OF THE MANIA. SO, I ACTUALLY DON'T MISS BEING FORCED TO WRITE.

Yes you can get brain damage and have no consciousness, but it is hard to say if one is imagining or not. I would think that it is possible to lose that ability due to lesions on certain parts of the brain, but it seems like you wouldn't be conscious at all and be simply like an animal.

It probably depends on what part of your brain is damaged, such as the pre frontal cortex " the thinking and reasoning" part of the brain. If your higher part of the cerebral cortex is damaged such as somebody who is in a PVS state there brainstem functions as well as sleep wake cycle stays intact, but there is no brain wave activity, no spikes. And the only outside stimuli you can possibly feel is pain. It depends on what part of your brain is damaged and how much.

Never heard of this happening, although anything is possible. We all experience the world differently so I think it is best we thank god for our blessings and even our miss givings for they have meaning too. Live life to the fullest.
Be careful, everything you say is a prayer and my might just get you request.
