Me and my husband are middle class and I sometimes hate it. Yes we live comfortably and have a nice house in a nice area with hoa. But then it seems like the poor get so much more and don't even work as hard as the middle or upper class do. We have to work to have health benefits and food and don't get as many tax breaks as the poor or rich do. How do you feel about the middle class and being middle class if you are?

I agree. We never get any tax breaks. It's always the very rich and the poor get subsidized with education vouchers, medicaid, food stamps if needed.
I can't even get a homeowners grant from our town, I make way too much and the income level they would approve couldn't afford to own a home. I feel your pain.

I hear ya. My husband and I are upper middle class for our age and honestly you kind of have to be where we live. It is so expensive. We have a nice house, cars etc. But we work our asses off for it and never get a break!! It is hard and nowadays you never know what can happen, you can drop to lower income in a flash.

yes, family has been for generations. But the middle class is under attack and shrinking, a lot. Enjoy it while we can because there won't really be a middle class in another decade or so.

Glad that some are becoming upper class. Keep working hard, more importantly, wise, and save as much as you can then learn to put that money to work to make you more.

I am not sure what "middle class" is anymore. If it is what you have, then I guess I am poor.

But I have to tell you no one "gives" me anything. I work my butt off to support myself and my two boys. We go without alot of things because I can't afford it. I am not talking about nice furniture or designer clothes here.

I am talking about the healthcare my children need, the bare minimum to grow up with. My medical and hospitalization insurance costs me $250 a month for my share, and covers 80% after the family deductible of $1,000.00. It's rough!

My teeth are rotting out of my mouth one at a time. I have to eat soft foods now. Why? Because my employer does not provide dental insurance and I can't afford to pay a dentist for the services we ALL need, not just me. Same thing with Optical insurance. I am wearing glasses I bought 6 years ago. They keep breaking and I keep crazy gluing them back together. Can't afford to pay for a new pair.

We live in apartments because I am unable to save enough to buy a home. We move from apartment to apartment because I keep trying to find affordable rent. It keeps going up and up and the public schools are just falling down on the job too. Teachers expect me to drop everything and run to school to talk to them at a moment's notice. Why? Because they can't teach my children. These teachers have gone to college, gotten a degree (or two) and been certified as teachers. I have a lowly high school diploma. Are they not suppose to know how to teach my boys?

And another thing. I make too much for my boys to get "free lunches" and "free breakfasts". Now, I am not complaining about the fact I have to struggle to make sure I come up with some money for their school meals, but why, when I come up short and they have to take a bag lunch, the school counselor tries to get me to fill out one of those damned "free lunch" forms even though I have told them and told them WE DONT QUALIFY!!!

Vacation for us is driving on daytrips on the weekend.

School clothes are bought at thrift shops and Goodwill.

My older son has a learning disability. I was told by one public school teacher to take him to Sylvan to learn how to read.

I could go on and on but why? Obviously I am poor. But what makes you think I have ANYTHING HANDED to me?
