Last month I switched from Ortho Tricyclen to generic. I just finished my period yesterday afternoon. I heard that there may be more side effects with the generic and I had more cramping this month but nothing horrible and my period was even lighter than before and started on time, etc. Anyway, today I am sooo tired and cranky, I am dizzy & light headed. Are these side effects from the birth control (b/c I took my first pill of the new pack last night)? I didn't feel this way last month when I first started the pack so I was just wondering if it could be from the pills or if I was just getting sick or something. Thanks.

I think all birth control makes us feel tired, cranky, dizzy, etc. I think it has nothing to do with being name brand or generic. Although, the hormones in the pills vary each week, there are more hormones in the first week of pills than in the third week. So this could also be one of the reasons since you say you just stared a new pack last night. I myself was on ortho lo for over a year, and have recently stopped taking it and have felt like my old self again. Didn't realize just how irritable the pill was making me until I came off of it. But to answer your question, I don't think it has anything to do with switching to the generic brand; if you still feel the same after a few days, maybe you should see your ob/gyn.

I'ts possible. The generic may contain other chemicals than the "main ingredients" and main hormones. If you are really concerned, I would just give a call to your doctors office and talk to the nurse. S/he should be able to answer that question for you.

I didn't know ortho tricyclen was available in generic! I might have to look into that!

Generic drugs are the exact same as the "real" one- legally, they are bound by the law.
Read up on your brand on their website and they will list all the potential side effects.
Try taking a multi-vitamin, this may help with the moods.

the symptoms you describe are most likely to be from that new birth control. but if it continues for 3 days or more, please notify your Gyno. about your symptoms.
