Depends on how they are moving -

Flash, (depending on which you are talking about, Jay, Barry, Wally, or Bart) all are the Fastest Man Alive. Now, that is the big breaking point, because Superman, is not a human, he is an alien from a different world. The Flashes can tap into the Speed force for more speed.

Superman, (depending on which you are talking about, Earth-2/Golden Age, Pre-Crisis, Modern, Animated, Smallville, Movie, Lois and Clark, etc.) has different speeds, but is much faster in the air than on foot.

Really, who is faster? Depends on who is writing the story, and what the point of it is. Hate to say that as the answer, but it always seems to be the case, if Superman needs to be faster, he can catch the Flash (like in Justice) or if the Flash needs to be faster, he can (like in Smallville, but to the credit of Clark, he is not yet Superman in Smallville and is still learning the limits of his powers.).

In the history of comics there have been many races between Superman and Flash. Sometimes Superman has won, sometimes flash and sometimes they have tied.

In a really long distance race (say 100 times around the equator) Superman would probably win because he doesnt get tired they way Flash does.

Of course, the Golden Age Superman was much slower, and the Golden Age Flash would have beaten him easily.

And on the TV Smallville, they claim Flash is faster.

In the old (Pre-Crisis) days, they were “equally” fast, just that Superman flew and Flash had to run. They competed in several races, but they always wound up being a tie (to thwart organized crime gambling in the outcome, etc.) There was a time the teamed up (I think the story was the attack of the Anachronoids) to protect the space time continuum from coming apart due to a bunch of time travelling robots, and they made a race out of it. They both wound up losing their powers and were reduced to crawling, but Flash won.

Since Crisis on Infinite Earths, Superman no longer had light speed capability, and the Flash does (the latest Flash is Bart Allen, who used to be Impulse, then Kid Flash.) So Flash is faster.

You can see a lot of classic Superman stories on line at Superman Through the Ages; there is one where he accidentally broke the time barrier and went back to Krypton and had a wonderful romance with Lyla Lerrol, Krypton’s most beautiful actress.

You can also go to the site hyperborea.org, those who ride the lightning, for everything you ever wanted to know about the Flash. They are well worth checking out.

Superman is faster overall, but in term of bodily fast, Flash is faster.

Remember Superman is a super man, while Flash is a very fast man.

according to the old dc universe trading cards they are equally as fast. unless running. superman has to fly to be as fast as the flash. he is fast when running but much faster when flying.

The flash, he is (was) tapped into the speed force which empowers him, using this he can drain speed from things around him to increase his speed.
