My friends daughter has thrush and has been on antibiodicts for 6 days now,her tongue and cheeks have cleared up but now her lips have the same white coating on them???Is this normal?She is still very fussy taking the bottle and doesnt want to eat any solids still,she is 6 and half months old.

She gives her yellow stuff called Nystatin,she is not sure if it is antbiodicts! :( I will look it up on the net thanks!

Yes it is an antibiotic used for yeast infections.

baby is allergic to dairy so no yogurt.

she is bottle fed not breast fed anymore

Yes this is normal. Is the meds she getting a liquad that you squirt in her mouth? Have her take a Q-tip and rub it on the white parts with the meds to take the "left over" on her lips away.

Antibiotics will make thrush worse! So if she had it when she started them then yes definately it woudl be worse after 6 days.
The use of antibiotics in either the infant OR mother can actually be teh CAUSE of thrush.
Are you sure it si not somethign else she is on?

Nystatin is an antifungal, and sometimes they do take a while to work. But if shes not clearnign up any by tomorrow I woudl call her pediatrician, she may need somethign stronger. Also, if mom is breastfeeding, she HAS to be treated too or they will just pass it back and forth.

Here is something you can have your friend tire.Give the baby water after every bottle and she can also clean the inside of the baby's mouth with a warm rag make sure she cleans after every bottle.Good Luck

thrush is a yeast infection of the mouth
and can be caused by antibiotics try feeding yogurt it will help replace good bacteria
