Skills or experiences? Logically, skills must come first. I am assuming skills, are talents, something we were born with. They can be improved upon and strengthened, but were always there. Experiences, I am assuming are something we have learned. Therefore. Skills, obviously are something that must come first. Wonderful debate - is it nature or nurture? Can you be taught or were you born with gifts? Good question. I believe that certain people were indeed gifted. But, at the same time, I also believe that with hard work you have the ability to learn talents.

Skills and experience are totaly seperate. Neither comes first or secound. And neither alone determines how well a person will perform. Little in life is black and white.

*A person may have a natural skill to do something and thus will do it well even without experience.

*A person may have skill and then work for years in a system that teaches bad methodolgies and then corrupt their skills.

*A person may have no natural skills what so ever, but after years of experience in a system with excellant methodologies they may be able to produce results.

You have to look at different things. Take teaching for example. If I had two applicants-

*one who had 10 years of experience but taught in a state that was on the bottom of the US as far as Education in a poorly performing school.

*Or another that had 2 years experience and has taught in a very successful school district ,that uses the same methods that we plan to use in our school.

I would not hesitate to choose the teacher with less experience because the experiences would have been quality ones. Where the teacher with 10 years experiences may have even come out of college with straight As, but with 10 years working in failing schools they have more than likely developed negitive teaching methodologies.

skills and experience are two seperate things. Though they effect each other, the idea that someone is "highly qualified" because of years of experience or even training for that matter is foolish. They are just some of the many things that factor into overall performance.

Skills or experience? You need to learn skill and you experience them. It is a process that requires both. You need to first learn the skill and then perfect the skill. Experience is done along the way.
