Take the streetcar from downtown to the border and then walk across.
If you drive, there are parking lots at the border. Do not drive across the border if you value your car. Don't forget US auto insurance is no good.

Park your car in the area before crossing the border, and then just walk into Mexico.

There are 6 tunnels to choose from. We use the one beneath the 17th bridge from the pier, which has those 1" bars, but 2 of them are removeable, by turning them a half turn, then pulling hard.
Think of others, and put them back the same as you find them.
