tommorow track starts for me. im in 8th grade...and our track team has A LOT of people...400 ish i think. anywayz, whats a good time for 100, 200, 400, 800, and 1600 for a 13 yr old whose 5'7" and 123.5 pounds. Last time I ran a 100 m dash and it was timed was in April 2006 and my time was 18.5 sec. I think it may be better because now i am a little bit better at running. Any tips for running faster/getting better times without overexhausting myself. One of my coaches last year said that i should try to lift my legs/feet while running to get farther. Please help...im kinda nervous about track, but also excited...I did it last year and it was great

Okay, so I am really good at 100 sprint. I've found out that to run the fastest, you have to move your legs as fast as you can and really pump your arms. Also, try taking long strides while moving your legs fast. This may sound hard, but if you're able to accomplish it, then you can outrun many people because they will most likely NOT be taking long strides. For 200, sprint the whole way. Many people run the 200 like they would the 400, but no, you have to SPRINT like you would for the 100. For 800 and 1600, you really need a good start, and develope your leg muscles prior to the race. Always breath in through your nose, and out through your mouth, it will conserve energy. When it comes to the near end of the race, stay behind the first place person, and then sprint as fast as you can when they least expect it. And a good time for 100m is 15sec

Basically, you should be somewhere around this:

100- 15 sec
200- 35 sec
400- 1:15
800- 3:35
1600- 7:00

Some of those you won't reach on your first day. The distance events, in fact, should be goals for mid-season. I run Varsity Track at my high school (800 and 1600), and I'm expecting a 6:00 on my 1600 for initial timing. Eventually, I would hope to be at a low 5. Similarly, since you're 13, you shouldn't be too far off of that.

Best of luck,
Nick

I am not sure but 30 years ago I saw my brother run a 100 yard dash in 9.2 seconds. At that time it was only 2 tenths off the worlds record. He was in the eightth grade at the time.so you tell me what is fast.
