ooh i know this one, I've had hermit crabs for over four years, varying in sizes and breeds and i always come to this, its quite simple actually, hand feed them! i use a jumbo hermit-crab feeder, but if you don't have one the tip of a Bic pen will do fine. i feed them tropical baby food or organic honey (has to be organic) pretty soon she'll assume that all humans want to feed her.

(how to hand feed)

stick the tip between the two pincher's , their little feeder appendages will scoop up the honey/baby food and shovel it into their mouths. of course you have to do this while they are out of the shell

I have had several hermit crabs. Mine were purchased from those horrible stands in the mall with small kids picking up and dropping the crabs back down all day long. My crabs were very timid at first. They soon adjust though. I would take them in a very quiet room and just watch them a bit. Soon, they would start to poking their little heads out and look at me. Once they got used to seeing me, I began picking them up and little them walk about on the floor. I used a little small animal pen, so I didn't have to worry about them escaping. After a while, I was able to just let them sit on my hands. And yes, I did get pinched a few times getting them tame hehe. It would suggest doing this late in the evening when they are active.

when i first got my hermie he was pretty shy but i would cup my hands around him and blow gently and that would force him to leave his shell becasue he is too hot. While he is out cooling off keep him in your hands and after a while he should learn that you are not a threat. I also let mine roam around for a while and he really likes that so i think he looks forward to me getting him out. He sure was a different little crabby after doing this once a day for about a week and now he is fun and not shy at all.

you have to get it near a lot of people and sooner or later he will like them.it takes a lot of work and bonding to get it not to be afraid.
