Sometimes... if it gets exhausting. Any type of relationship works only if both parties put in their 50%. Sometimes one might put in 80 and the other 20 but the roles have to switch or at least meet back to 50% or the one putting more into the relationship is going to get tired of it and feel almost used. If you are thinking of writing someone off just tell them that it can't be about them all the time and hope that things change.

Lost? In the Evangelical sense? We can put them out of our circle, but how does one ever write off someone they are truly bonded with. They are always there, and there is no final closure. On the other hand, remember the prodigal. TRUE love doesn't really end, change, yes, end, no. You do not have to be their door mat. Hate the sin, but love the sinner.

If they want to be written off, they will do the writing.

I only write people off when they've wronged several people multiple times.

no, I would never do that. I've experienced that feeling myself and I know how painful it would be to be left alone in such moments.
