This really depends on the type of turtle. Turtles like to swim in water, tortoises and box turtles don't. They have different feeding, heating, and enclosure needs depending on the species. Some love to dig.

I'm sorry to sound mean but if you don't kow how to care for an animal then you don't need one. Look up the specific breed of turtle that you want. Do some research.
