= [ (x+8) - (x+7) ] / (x-3) = 1/(x-3)

Consider this as two fractions each having the same denominator. Because of this you can subtract them.

(x+8) - (x+7)/(x-3)

x+8-x-7/x+3

Result is 1/x+3
