I was just wondering how much and when are you supposed to swaddle a newborn? This might sound stupid but i thought you was supposed to pretty much keep them swaddled just not so tight around their hips but, my grandmother in-law says that your only supposed to swaddle them when they are sleeping. Anything will be helpful.

Well I don't think you should keep a baby swaddled all the time, they need to use their hands and arms some of the time. Other than that swaddle your baby as much as your baby likes.

Personally my baby has always hated it. The nurses would swaddle him, he'd scream, I'd give him back his hands and he'd fall asleep.

It depends on the baby, some babies like to be swaddled, others don't, in the hospital they keep the newborns swaddled all the time. Being swaddled makes them feel like they felt when you were pregnant with them. They make special blankets for swaddling that makes it easier to swaddle them.

Swaddling is a good way to comfort a cold baby and thru swaddling babies find a secured feeling as if there being cuddled in the arms all the time.

Swaddling is for comfort, so your baby will let you know how often to swaddle her! Babies love the feeling of being nice and cozy.

Babies love to be tightly cuddled! For them, the snugger, the better. There is no reason not to swaddle them tightly around their hips. When babies feel hungry or stressed they tend to bring their hands up to their face, and thus it is a good idea to leave a bit of wiggle room for their arms.

I did swaddle my baby for about a week, then he didn't like it any longer. But I also had a summer baby so that could have been the reason too.

I keep my daughter swaddled pretty much all the time. She has fussy fits, and if I swaddle her, it helps. (doesn't make it stop, just slows it down, lol). Also, She loves being swaddled when she's sleeping.

I don't believe there's a certain amount you should do it. Swaddling makes a baby feel comfortable and reminds them of the womb. I would do it when she's upset, and you want to calm her, or even when you want to hold her. I honestly don't think that just when she's asleep is an appropiate enough time. But that's just my opinion.

I used to do it any time my son was upset, and ALWAYS when sleeping. You wrap up their arms too like a little mummy. It makes them feel cuddly and safe.

I didnt do it much when he was just awake . I might put him in the baby swing or in a seat that he could lay back in but iyt sorta bounced up and down if he kicked his legs. I never swaddled him in those cases or if I was holding him and playing with him.

let your baby be your guide. We swaddled our baby all the time and if she didn't want to, she'd either break out of it or cry. We did it pretty tight too, but babies are magicians =)
