I am 7 months pregnant, and I have had a very troublesome time with my pregnancy. I work retail, and I am always on my feet. Physically, its is harder for me to carry around a heavy baby, when you have a bad back and your body isn't use to carrying the extra weight. I know that I have had to call out of work more than normal, but I don't want to quit my job (I need the money). I think that my boss is starting to think about firing me. Can someone fire a person for being pregnant or having a hard time with their pregnancy?

As noted above, yes they can. If you can't come in to work reliably, the employer needs to replace you. If you were unable to come into work because you were prone to getting the flu, they could fire you as well. Being pregnant doesn't make you immune from normal expectations.

Absolutely not! Howeverm they can fire you for not coming into work or other things, so be careful. Go to your OB/GYN and get a note any time you call in or can't do something due to your pregnancy. You might even be able to get away with your doc writing off a note that says you can only work "x" ammount of hours on your feet or something too. Your boss should be understanding about your condition. As long as you are doing your job, there shouldn't be an issue. If, however, you do get fired and have had a docs note for the times you have called in, there is grounds for a lawsuit. Sure hope that helps. Good Luck with your pregnancy. Been there and done that hun!

That is a touchy question. Technically, no he cannot fire you for being pregnant, but he can fire you for not being a reliable employee. The best way to handle this is to have your doctor limit your hours, or have you take medical leave. This way your employer cannot fire you due to pregnancy absenteeism.

You can't get fired for being pregnant.....unless you are living in korea or somewhere like that.

They can if they don't want to be liable if something goes wrong with the pregnancy. Its not fair but true.
