It was, indeed, Oliver who had the big hit in the 1960's (though it was recorded by others like Strawberry Alarm Clock and featured in the musical "Hair"). Full name William Oliver Swofford. He died in February 2000 at age 54 of cancer. Lyrics were by Danielle White.

I only recall it from the film version of "Hair", done by Beverly D'angelo. Oh, and, from "The Simpsons"- I think that was done done by Mr. Burns.
