any time the carpet is darker, its a stain- any time the carpet is lighter, its lost its color. The best way to take care of this is to have a carpet dye specialist come in and dye your carpet. Most of us don't want to spend the money, or have to move all of the furniture out of a room because of a few light spots.
Two other solutions (although not as perfect) are to patch a small section of carpet in- if it is done right it is barely noticeable, and the other might be to try a dye pen- I have had mixed results.
OR you could just rearrange the furniture to cover up the light spot!

Go to the company's website (white out) and find out. You could also do a website search for "Hints from Heloise" or "Martha Stewart" - many good hints

White out should dry up and be chipped off with your fingernails then vaccum after. It should come right up if you leave it alone and let it dry first.
