I have a '02 Nissan Altima with the check engine light stuck on and have already pulled the code out for low emissions leak. I just need to reset the thing without having to pay someone else an arm and a leg, and a couple of kids to have them take 5 minutes and viola. I know there's got to be an easy way to fix this. Please help!

You can turn the check engine light off with an OBD2 code reader that has a code erase button on it, but the light will come back on unless the cause of the problem is repaired.

Might try disconnecting the battery for a minute or so.Did you fix the low emissions leak? It will stay on as long as the computer sites the problem..Fix the problem then reset .Your dealer will reset (free) most of the time.

One thing to keep in mind with "cel" or "check engine lights" - is this - they only indicate that there is a problem in a particular "circuit". if for instance - you take the car to Autozone and have them diagnose the cel with the scantool and it comes back as" map sensor error". Then it merely indicates a problem in the map sensor circuit. It in no way means that the map sensor is absolutely the problem - only that the problem is in the map sensor circuit. You will still have to diagnose the circuit itself as to whether the sensor is bad - there is a bad wire in the circuit - there is a bad resistor inside the "ecu - engine control unit" . its not as simple as just changing the map sensor - and thats why your dealer gets his $80 - $100 an hour rate - for the proper diagnosis. Not simply replacing a part and hoping!!! That its the right guess.

You can't get used to it. I have the same problem with a saturn 300, took the car in a few times , light still stays on, I will never buy a saturn again.
