Do you gain weight because of the hormones or because you feel hungry and want to eat more?

they are safe. if they werent, millions of women would not be taking them! im surprised they dont give them out at the drug store, because the doctor just needs to know that you are a relatively healthy person and will just give you the prescroption. they do regulate hormones but there is nothing severe going on that will have long term serious side effects. (if u smoke there can be complications but you would have to read up on that)

you do gain a little bit of weight (nothing major though, i dont know anyone that has gained more than 1-3 lbs). i believe its mostly from water retention, it has nothing to do with increasing your appetite.

I was told you gain because of the hormones, and it has some side affects with it not to mention having to remember to take it everyday. I opted for the depo shot wich was easier for me. I went in every 11 to 13 weeks for it then forgot about til next shot. It says you can gain weight but I maintained and even lost weight. The main side affect was no longer having my monthly, wich I enjoyed for 11 years. I think I am starting my menopause so I discontinued the shot. The shot may affect people differentley than some.

I am convinced that birth control pills caused my hair to start falling out by screwing up my hormones.
