My mile time is about 10 minutes and I need to get it down by august. But whenever I run I get really winded fast and can't breathe because of my asthma. I'm also not really fast.
But I want to make the Field Hockey team. Any suggestions on how to improve my mile?

you should pace yourself while running the mile. Try not to walk cause that will slow you down the most. I used to just run really fast in first but then i had to end up walking the rest because i was really tired and i got 13 min sometimes! but now i get like between 8-9 1/2 minutes because i use a differnet technique. For the first 200 m of the mile start fast then near the middle of the mile pace to a jog. Then near the end increase your speed and dont slow down until you have passed the finish line. i don't have asthma so I don't know if this may be different for you. Just pace yourself so you'll rarely deal with getting to exhausted from running so fast. Mainley you should run as fast as you can near the end of the mile. I hope this helps :)

When your mile time is 5:00 or higher, speed is not really a factor. Being at 10:00, it seems like your challenge is to improve your endurance. You said you get winded fast. I would gradually increase your daily runs to the point that you can run 3-5 miles without stopping. Maybe once a week, go to a track and do some speed workouts. For example, you could do 6 intervals of one lap at 90%. Between each interval, give yourself 2-3 minutes of rest for your heart rate to come down. But you really need to focus on increasing the amount of time engaging in non-stop distance runs. Make sure you are stretching, lightly before, and more thoroughly after the run.

Trust me I run a mile to two miles every day heres what you should try:
-Wear Shorts then You can move your legs better
-Make sure you are wearing running shoes because skateboarding shoes and flip-flops can mess up your ankles
-Wear gel insoles they help your ankles to
-Listen to an ipod or mp3 player while running it helps me block out everything around me where i can concentrate on running
-since you have asthma pace yourself try running for half a mile then jogging the other half or whatever works for you
-Dont pay any attention to friends while running they'll slow you down and you can always talk to them later
-give yourself a motive to run tell yourself something like if i can do this in 8 minutes then i can stop for ice cream after school or go out with that boy or whatever works for you

#1...with your lung condition, consult a Dr.
Wind sprints and adding more distance after a while will help you. Go alittle faster and further daily, till u reach the goal...But check that asthma...Dont want u to croak before crossing the finish-line
