Such as Rush, Pink Floyd, Pantera, Alice In Chains, Tool (They are still around though). Why doesn't anyone listen to talent anymore?

You dont know how many times Ive asked the same thing. The music out now days is crap. Its like they go out and find the most talentless group that can halfway play a few chords and have the worst singer imagineable. Its all so uncreative it makes me sick, I mean these people are rich for having no talent...and people like it! Alice in Chains is my favorite band ever and no one will ever compare to them or any of the other groups you mentioned. Back then it was about talent and being unique and people who listened to it did it because it was good music, not because it was the thing to like, it sure isnt that way anymore. Sad, sad, sad!

Glad you listed Tool up there, that was going to be my answer :P

I think talent's quickly being replaced by demand. If you don't mind me reverting back to the same thing, that's what makes Tool so good. They don't just crap out album after album of the same stuff. They take five-year haituses and come up with some really interesting, creative work. And that doesn't happen as often. I guess times are changing.

But... don't give up on the modern music industry yet. There's still some interesting material out there. Bands like the White Stripes are doing a good job of focusing on producing good music (not to mention Jack White's one of the best guitarists in recent history). And there are plenty of non-mainstream indie bands out there who haven't been exposed to media and fan pressure and who are therefore capable of producing material at their own pace. I just think the era of the great rock bands is coming to a close, my friend. For folks who recognize good music, like you apparently do, we just have to dig a little deeper.

Since the dawn of the computer, anyone with a few bucks to spend and a halfway good band could walk up to a recording studio and make an album. Then it actually took people that WANTED to do it, not just wanted the money, since recording was a long, tedious, and expensive job, and the artists themselves often helped out extensively mixing tapes (read- taping bits of strip together to perfectly fit together something).

HOW TO MAKE A MODERN PUNK/ROCK BAND

So you have a band. Come up with a good name, now.

Pane of Blood

Yeah, that's good. Gory and stuff. And it has a word in it that sounds like Pain. Now for the first song.

It hurts me so much
I hate the world sometimes
Even the slightest touch
Might set me off my chain

CHORUS
Don't bother me
Don't bother me, can't you see
Don't bother me
I had a bad life

She broke up with me
My friends hate everything I do
My family tree's
So f*cked up, can't you see? (The cuss word's in there cause cussing's cool.)

CHORUS

I had a bad, bad, life

Good. It's all hateful and emo and great to cut to. Now to find a band. Get a monkey that can hold a drumstick, a stoner from down the street that can half choke out a chord, teach your little sister how to play bass, and find a recording studio. Make your band to play and be sure to sing with a cracky, strainy, whiney voice. Get them to "virtually enhance" everything. Tada! You sound like you might actually have half an ounce of talent in your whole band!

Yes, I just wrote that song in about 30 seconds. Sad thing is, my friends said that it was BETTER than some stuff out there.

I disagree. Every now and again an amazing artist breaks-through in their field. I'm not a big fan of Rap, but Snoop-Dogg is the leader and pretty much the lead-dogg of Rap. In Rock, the bands are all to formulaic. its hard, but everynow and again someone shows signs of brilliant. Just depends on yr taste.

I think its because they ran out of ideas. The earlier groups took it all.
