I've reported the dipwit above for abuse - Ignore it.
Here we go....We know that Distance = Speed * Time, or D=S*T
We know distance, we know the average speed, we want to solve for Time...So, we rearrange our equation by dividing both sides by S...
D/S = T
Substitute and Evaluate:
1131 miles / 5.3 Miles per Hour = 213.396226415 hours.
So now we need to convert this whole mess into days, hours, minutes and seconds!
First days - There are 24 hours in a day, so we divide by 24 - Keep those decimals, we'll need 'em later!
213.396226415/24 = 8.89150943396 days.
So we take off those 8 days and set 'em aside - That's our first part.
.89150943396 days is now left.
Multiply THAT by 24 hours in a day to get the hours...
21.396226415 hours.
So, take off those 21 hours and set 'em aside with the 8 days (8 days, 21 hours...). That leaves us:
.396226415 hours.
Multiply THAT by 60 minutes in each hour to get minutes:
23.7735849 minutes.
Take off those 23 minutes and set 'em aside with the 8 days and 21 hours...(8 days, 21 hours, 23 minutes...)
and that leaves us:
.7735849 mintues.
Multiply THAT by 60 seconds in each minute and we get:
46.415094 seconds.
THAT we can round off to just 46 seconds...
So our final answer is:8 days, 21 hours, 23 minutes and 46 seconds.
Make a bit more sense?

First, 1131 miles x (1hr/5.3 miles) = 213.3962264 hours (This is the projected finish time)
Then, you want to express the finish time in days, hours, minutes, and seconds so:
For days, there are 24 hours in a day:
Hence, 213.3962264 hours x (1 day/24 hours) = 8.891509434 days. The number of whole days is 8 and you are left with 0.891509434 days that are not enough to make 1 whole day. Use this number and convert it into hours.
Again using the fact that there are 24 hours in a day:
0.891509434 days x (24 hours/1 day) = 21.39622642 hours.
This shows 0.891509434 days equals 21.3922642 hours.
The number of whole hours is 21 and you have 0.39622642 hours left. Convert this into minutes.
There are 60 minutes in 1 hour so:
0.39622642 hours x (60 minutes/ 1 hour) = 23.77358496 minutes. There are 23 whole minutes and 0.77358496 minutes that should be converted into seconds.
For seconds, you have 60 seconds in 1 minute:
0.77358496 minutes x (60 seconds/ 1 minute) = 46.4150976 seconds.
Therefore, the projected finish time is 8 days: 21 hours: 23 minutes: 46.4150976 seconds.
I hope this is helpful! I want you to understand this so if you don't, please let me know.

look at the units.
you WANT a time
you have miles, and miles/time (miles per hour)
so time=(miles per hour)/miles
1131/5.3= solve this...your answer will be in Hours
if the answer is
larger than 24-you're dealing with more than one day. divide by 24 and write down the number before the decimal point. that's days, W.
take the number after the decimal point and multiply it by 24. (what you're doing here is taking the fraction of days that were left over and converting them to hours.) .5 days=12 hours (.5*24=12.) this is hours, X
take the number after the decimal point and multiply it by 60. you're converting a part of an hour into whole minutes. This gives you minutes, Y
One last time, take the numbers after the decimal point and multiply by 60. We're taking fractions of minutes and converting them to whole seconds. This gives you whole seconds, or Z.
hope that helped.

W 26 days
X 5 hours
Y 39 minutes
Z 6 seconds.
This is if travel is done 8 hours a day.
