A lot of my friends call the music I listen to Emo....but what they're call emo isn't like Snow Patrol, The Fray and some Train songs. I think they're calling it Emo because some of the songs are slow and what they're about may be sad like "How To Save a Life". How do I explain to them what real emo music is. Excuse me for using a stereotype, I am really sorry because I am called 'emo' and that stuff. I tell them that bands like AFI, Drop Dead Gorgeous, System of a Down are emo but they don't understand because they won't listen to it. Everything except rap is emo to them, even some country songs. I'm really frustrated by their 'beliefs' and I want to know the best way to explain to them without being overbearing but giving them knowledge. Help?

Explain how "emo" doesn't necessarily have to be slow sad songs, but rather has to do with how the band is trying to show emotion in their songs...
And emo songs aren't necessarily a bad thing..

an identical issue occurs to me. they imagine each little thing is emo except for his or her degrading hip hop music they hearken to. genuine, AFI or Drop lifeless marvelous, I hearken to them, yet that would not make the guy emo, or the music emo. Emo is type of that "new note" the position human beings use because they don't have any opposite direction to describe stuff. it truly is only a fad, yet heck, they likely do not understand something about music, so it shouldn't difficulty you. in case you hearken to Snow Patrol, you ought to love death Cab for Cutie too. they are reliable.

EMO is when a band is so clear about what they are trying to convey lyrically...instead of leaving lyrics open to interpretation, they are very clear about what they want u to think about...
for example..instead of saying "The days and nights are longer than rattle-snakes", they will say "i hate this day and i hate you"...
get it? good..
SYSTEM OF A DOWN IS NOT EMO!!!!! thats an insult to my favorite band!....system of a down is unique...unlike anyone else...they are system of a down only!

uh just tell them you're not raggin on their music, so why should they be raggin on yours? not a nice thing to do to your friend, they should respect what you like as you do for them
