I was doing research on college admissions and I read some stories about people who did get in just because of a great interview.

Yes, it is entirely possible that a student who is not qualified at all will impress an admissions officer into offering them a position. One of my friends had low grades and horrible testing scores, but was smart and had a lot on his plate. By acing the interview and explaining why he looked so blah on paper, he got in. It is rare, but possible.

Simply put, NO! College admissions can definitely hinge on the interview, but it's not the only criteria for admission.

Why is the interview so important? Because up until then, you're simply a piece of paper, but that interview shows me what kind of person you are, thus helping me decide if you're really college material and right for my school.

it's very unlikely because there are just so many different aspects of your high school career that colleges look at. however, i'm sure it helps to have a good interview -- it shows your personality, which is important because colleges see first hand that there's more to your life than just stacks of books.
