A person I know says that he runs a key along the side of all these peoples cars when they park in disabled spaces. He says they are being selfish lazy inconsiderate and forcing real disabled folk hardship . He reckons if we all did this very soon the message would get across and they would decide it was too costly to park in these spaces then disabled folk would get the spaces which were intended to help them due to the difficulty they have with mobility.
After watching a 4x4 parking in the last disabled space at asda rhyl
and a woman and 4 other kids ranging from about 6 to 16 springing out obviously not disabled I sort of began to think this might not be a bad strategy.
The irony of it was that the spare tyre on the back was advertising a local taxi company!
I guess hubby was at the cab office running the business!
I despair at the selfishness of some people who do not give a damn for the less fortunate in our society!
Unfortunately I wasn't brave enough to scratch the car !

My mom was in a wheelchair for the last few years of her life, and the audacity of people never ceased to amaze me. It could be pouring down rain or snowing, and we'd be trying to find a handicapped parking place. . .only to have some rude, selfish able-bodied jerk cut us off and grab the last spot. They saw Mom's handicapped license plates and just didn't give a damn about anybody but their own lazy selves.

Now that I'm in a wheelchair and have a cell phone, I don't hesitate to report someone who parks illegally. I think keying their car is a bit over the top, but boy, I do love to see the police writing out a nice big fat ticket and leaving it on their windshield.

Hit 'em where it hurts often enough, and maybe they'll learn that those handicapped spots are for those of us who need them. I'm not in this wheelchair because I think it's a neat fashion accesory, that's for sure.

Edit:

And having said all that, I will add that some handicaps such as heart or breathing problems may not be immediately obvious. If the person has a handicapped placard or plates, it's not fair to judge them on the basis of how they appear.

Not all medical conditions are as obvious as those that require a wheelchair or a walker.

I would say not it is fortunate that you did not scratch the car, I think the charge is far more severe and costly to vandalize another individuals vehicle. I do agree that people who are not disable should not park in disabled parking places, however, to wrongs do not make a right. Perhaps your friend should consider writing down the license plate number, calling the police to report it or go into the store and notify security. God bless****

Diffinately NOT! They may be liable for a $25 or $50 fine, but they sure don't deserve a $1,000 + key job!
Besides, what if they just forgot to display the tag from their rearview mirror, and they really are disabled?
And PLEASE take note: not everyone that's disabled is going to walk slowly with a limp, or carry a cane. I myself try to walk briskly, in spite of chronic heart and lung problems which make me eligible for the handicap tag. Some disabilities are invisible.

And I know I get strange looks when I park my Corvette in the handicap spots.

By damaging cars you're lowering yourself much below the ones who park illegally.
A bigger offense in my opinion is the one who has a handicapped sign in his windshield, but does not get out of the car while non-handicapped riders in his car get out.
Or the teenagers who use their parent's car with the handicapped sign.
The space is intended for handicapped people who get out of the car, and walk into the business place.
Taking advantage of the handicapped sign should call for double the fine for illegal parking.

Okay really, I have family members that are disabled and cannot walk, but they don't seem to care as much as you guys do. What about the pregnancy parking spots? Does he wait outside to see if they are really pregnant.

I would'nt go as far as keying the car but it is sad when the wotld has come to this... these spaces are there for a reason and if you don't have that reason don't use them. Use the feet that you are so lucky to still have..........
