hi i need help with our pet hamster. i read here that the reason one of the eyes is closed is due to the bedding problem. we have pine bedding.. we have been using it for a while now. she has not posted any problems with it until a few weeks ago. i wanted to look for the bedding that she is used too but the stores here only sell pine ones even petsmart. can u suggest to me what to do with the bedding situation until we get the ones she need? thanks

she can open her eyes if she want. she opens it if i wash it with cloth too. but the eye that is close has a little red spot around the outside of the eye. the other does not. is that a problem. thanks for the feedback.

DONT USE PINE! That is NOT a safe bedding for hamsters, or rodents in general. It emits bad chemicals that can cause problems with the hamster, including eye problems. You would be better off using toilet paper as bedding than pine...Dont use CEDAR either.

Pine and cedar alike are not suitable for hamsters. Aspen can also cause an allergy in a hamster. Try using critter Care or Care Fresh brand litters instead. They are hypoallergenic. Check to see if the eye is crusty, if it is then she will need to see the vet to get antibiotic eye drops for the infection. In the mean time keep wiping the eye with a warm moist cloth to try and open the eye. The red spot on the eye is worrisome and really needs a vets attention. We've had this same problem with some of the small animals we've rescued where the owners used pine and worse cedar. The vet gave us the eye drops so we can treat any with eye infections.

Try shredding a newspaper until you can get it. My hamster just reacted to pine bedding and that is what I had to do until the order came in for the Aspen.

This got here approximately to my hamster as quickly as - the left eye grew to become into closed so i've got been given slightly tissue and placed luke heat water on and went over the attention. it opened , yet then closed back yet then it opened and grew to become into ok - i think of it had some sleep in its' eye like we do =)
