Do yourself a favor and take up chess! It's just an awesome game. I take chess puzzles with me to work to pass the time. You can find chess puzzle books at any bookstore. Buying Chessmaster 10th Edition would be a great start because it has excellent tutorials on how to play and also provides you with computer generated opponents if you don't have someone to play with. It also has online chess which is great fun. I played a guy in Moscow the other day! We tied.

You can also buy small pocket sized chess computers so you can play any time anywhere!

Good luck! Chess is the way to go! You'll enjoy it for a lifetime!

How about Geocaching! All around you, people have hidden stuff for you to find. Some of them are big Tupperware containers full of trade items. Others are tiny little containers with only enough room for a slip of paper to sign your name. You do need a handheld GPS unit to find them, which you can get on Ebay for about $35.00. Geocaches can be in the woods where you have to hike, or right downtown. You could compete to see who snags the most caches, or who finds the bestgeo-coins, or who leaves the best swag, or who hides the most dastardly nano-caches . We are very competitive about numbers!

here are several options:
>warhammer: there are 2 types, fantasy, which is set in past and 40k in future. downfall: takes time to paint every little soldier of your army, and makes hole size of texas in your wallet.
>designing your own team in madden nfl '07: this really fun, as you can make your teams. Downfall: you need a game platform, a game, and tons 'o patience, not to mention skill.
