Lap Top usb port powr surge?

My friend just gave me an IBM think pad laptop, but something that says POWER SURGE ON HUB PORT and a usb device has exceeded the power limit of this hub port. but i don't have anything in the usb port or anything I know of so what is the problem

take it to a computer shop to have the usb ports checked! he could of short circuited the ports!!
