Well, the events when Trunks by himself killed the Androids and then Cell happened in an alternate timeline (where all of the warriors including Gohan died), and suffice to say, the story never bothered again to tell more on what happened further than that in that timeline.
It should be noted in the main timeline, Buu was revived very quickly due Gohan's power and then also Vegeta and Goku's power when they are fighting each other. Without these three around in the alternate timeline, Buu's revival would happen relatively much slower, especially with the lack of powerful warriors.

Well If it's trunks vs Buu in a battle alone not even Ultra Trunks has enough power to defeat buu or even hurt buu buu is stronger than cell and the androids put togather all over again so he has no chance other than going back in time in his ultra form and blowing up that cacoon buu was in when before Gohan faught Dabura or during.Other than that he has no cance in hell.

Goku beat Buu with his spirit bomb.
If ur talking about when he went back to the future, Trunks did not have to defeat Buu, because the time had changed from him traveling back in time to the past. After Goku beat Buu in the past Trunks went back to his time and knew how to destroy the androids and cell, but Buu ceased to exist.

Some of the Buus annoyed me... like that fat one.. and the small one.. Freiza was cool but he complained to much when he didn't like something... my all time favorite (and favorite dba saga) is the cell saga... Cell was charming and witty and he culd definitely kick *** lol! wait vageta was badass when he was a villain too lets not forget him.
